Synthesis

General method: 1,4-bis(bromomethyl)benzene (1 mol) was dissolved in 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane in an open-ended flask with continuous stirring at 120°C for 12 hours. The reaction process was monitored by thin layer chromatography (TLC). When the reaction was complete, the solvent was removed by evaporation under reduced pressure to give 1,4-bis(maleimido)butane (BMI).
