Uses

4-Chloro-2-methylthiopyrimidine-5-onitrile is an organic intermediate. Literature reports that 4-chloro-2-methylthiopyrimidine-5-onitrile can be used to prepare steroidal anti-androgen compounds, and pharmacological experiments have demonstrated that these compounds possess good anti-prostate cancer activity.

Synthesis

Dissolve 2 g (6.6 mmol) of ethyl 4-chloro-2-methylthiopyrimidine-5-carboxylate of raw material in 10 ml of anhydrous ethanol, add 0.68 g of NaOH solid, 10 ml of water, and raise the temperature to . reflux. after 1h TLC showed complete reaction. Spin dry the ethanol and adjust the pH to 3 with 6N HCl, a large amount of solid was precipitated. Filtering yielded 1.69g of white crystals in 91.8% yield.
