Uses
Mometasone (Mometasone EP Impurity G) is a potent topical corticosteroid. Mometasone has potent antiinflammatory activity and is used in the treatment of dermatological disorders. It can be applied to the skin, inhaled, or used in the nose. It is used to alleviate inflammation and itchiness in skin conditions that respond to treatment with glucocorticoids such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. Mometasone furoate, not mometasone, is used in medical products.
Definition
ChEBI: Mometasone is an 11beta-hydroxy steroid, a 17alpha-hydroxy steroid, a 20-oxo steroid, a 3-oxo-Delta(1),Delta(4)-steroid, a chlorinated steroid and a tertiary alpha-hydroxy ketone. It has a role as an anti-inflammatory drug, a dermatologic drug, a vasoconstrictor agent and an anti-allergic agent. It is functionally related to a Delta(1)-progesterone.
Side effects
The most common side effects are an unpleasant smell and a dry or sore nose or throat.
in vivo
Mometasone (0.1-3 mg/kg; intranasally) inhibits the increased airway sensitivity to aerosolized methacholine at the highest dose tested of 3 mg/kg, and dose-dependently inhibits the allergen-induced increase in Penh in a mouse model of allergic lung inflammation[3].
