Step 1: 2-Chloro-3-nitro-5-bromopyridine (2.38 g, 10 mmol) was dissolved in methanol (50 mL) and Raney nickel (0.5 g) was added. The reaction mixture was stirred overnight under hydrogen atmosphere. Upon completion of the reaction, the Raney nickel was removed by filtration and the filtrate was concentrated to afford 2-chloro-3-amino-5-bromopyridine (2.08 g, 100% yield), which could be used in subsequent reactions without further purification. Mass spectrum (ESI) m/z: 208.9 [M + 1].
