(+/-)-PROPIONYLCARNITINE CHLORIDE Usage And Synthesis
Uses
Propionylcarnitine is metabolized by carnitine acetyltransferase from propionyl-CoA. Increased propionylcarnitine is regarded as a biomarker of vitamin B12 deficiency[1][2].
Definition
ChEBI: O-propanoylcarnitine is an O-acylcarnitine compound having propanoyl as the acyl substituent. It has a role as an analgesic, an antirheumatic drug, a cardiotonic drug, a peripheral nervous system drug and a human metabolite. It is functionally related to a propionic acid.
in vivo
Propionylcarnitine (2 mM/kg; p.o. for 4 weeks) affects plasma and urine total carnitine concentrations of mice[3].
| Animal Model: | Adult age-matched male C57BL/6 mice[5] |
| Dosage: | 2 mM/kg/day |
| Administration: | Oral gavage; 2 mM/kg/day for 4 weeks |
| Result: | Increased plasma and urine total carnitine concentrations, but showed no effect on the skeletal muscle carnitine content of mice. |
