Chemical Properties

Orange-yellow crystals, soluble in methanol, ethanol, DMSO and other organic solvents, derived from tomato rhizomes, leaves, green fruits, high in content, and low in mature fruits.

Uses

Columbamine has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antihistamine, cardiotonic, anticancer effects.

ChEBI: Columbamine is a berberine alkaloid and an organic heterotetracyclic compound.

Biological Activity

Columbamine is a quaternary isoquinoline alkaloid extracted from plants.

in vivo

Columbamine (5-20 mg/kg; 23 days) significantly decreases the tumor volumes in a dose-dependent manner in HCT116 xenograft mice model[4].

Animal Model:Six-weeks-old male BALB/c nude mice (subcutaneously injected with HCT116 and control cells on the opposite flanks of the same mouse)[4]
Dosage:5, 10, 20 mg/kg
Administration:Administered to experimental mice for 23 days
Result:Decreased the tumor volumes in a dose-dependent manner.
