Chemical Properties

White crystalline powder, easily soluble in methanol, almost insoluble in ether, derived from the dried roots and rhizomes of Nardostachys chinensis Batal.

Uses

Nardosinone reduces neuronal injury and protects H9c2 cardiac cells from angiotensin II-induced hypertrophy which may give rise to heart failure. Enhancer of nerve growth factor (NGF).

Biological Activity

Nardosinone is a main active ingredient from medical plant Nardostachys jatamansi. Nardosinone exhibits varies pharmacological effects including anti-inflammatory and anti-hypertrophic in cardiomyocytes. Nardosinone enhances activity of the nerve growth factor and promotes neural stem cells proliferation and differentiation. The molecular mechanism of its activity remains unclear.
