Uses

1-Chlorocarbonyl-1-methylethyl acetate was used in preparation of α,γ-dichloro alditols.

Preparation

1-Chlorocarbonyl-1-methylethyl acetate can be prepared by the acylation of 2-hydroxyisobutyric acid (Acetyl Chloride, Acetic Acid) followed by reaction with Thionyl Chloride.

General Description

Reaction of 1-chlorocarbonyl-1-methylethyl acetate with 1-aryl ethylene glycols to yield trans chlorohydrin acetates was reported.

1-Chlorocarbonyl-1-methylethyl acetate is corrosive and a lachrymator and should be handled accordingly.
