Sassafras oil Chemical Properties,Usage,Production

Uses

sassafras oil (Sassafras albidum) is credited with anti-septic, astringent, and stimulant properties. It is composed of approximately 80 percent saprol. Sassafras oil is obtained from the plant’s bark and root through a process of steam distillation. It may produce dermatitis in hypersensitive individuals.

Uses

Formerly as flavoring in beverages such as root beer. Oil as scent in perfumes and soaps.

Safety Profile

Human poison by ingestion. A skin irritant. When heated to decomposition it emits acrid smoke and irritating fumes.
