Sophoridine Usage And Synthesis
Description
One of a number of minor alkaloids isolated from Leontice albertii Rgl., this base crystallizes from petroleum ether as colourless prisms. It is dextrorotatory having a specific rotation of [α]D + 59.3° (c 1.3, EtOH) and yields a crystalline methiodide, m.p. 249°C. The structure has been assigned on the basis of chemical analysis and spectroscopic determinations.
Chemical Properties
It is easily soluble in water, methanol, ethanol, carbon tetrachloride, etc. It is derived from the aerial parts of the leguminous plant Sophora alopecuroides L.
Uses
(+)-Sophoridine acts as an anti-inflammatory agent in vitro and in vivo. Anticancer agent, with a promising anti-tumor effect and lower toxicity.
in vivo
Sophoridine (intraperitoneal injection; 20 or 40 mg/kg; 21 days) can inhibit the growth of xenograft pancreatic tumors[1].
