staurolite Usage And Synthesis
Chemical Properties
Staurolite, a complex iron-aluminum silicate, has been commercially recovered from various placer deposits in the southeastern United States, with one located at a DuPont operation in Starke, Florida. Its hardness, measured at 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale, is equal to or slightly higher than that of quartz. Staurolite is primarily used for pressure blasting.
Industrial uses
Sandblasting abrasives (90%), foundry sand.
