Gastrointestinal antispasmodic drugs
Gastrointestinal antispasmodic drugs are mainly M receptor blockers, briefly referred to as anticholinergics, including belladonna alkaloids and their derivatives and artificial synthetic substitutes. For example: atropine, anisodamine, scopolamine, belladonna, trimebutine, and propanthine.
Mechanism These drugs function mainly through weakening the peristalsis function of the gastrointestinal tract, causing relaxation of the esophagus and gastrointestinal sphincter, thereby slowing down the stomach emptying and intestinal transport, weakening the gallbladder contraction and reducing the gallbladder pressure as well as weakening the colon peristalsis and slowing down the transport of colon contents.
Clinical anticholinergic drugs has atropine be the typical representative, mainly used for treating gastrointestinal dysfunction, relieving visceral colic, treating acute microcirculation and various kind of toxic shock and poisoning rescue and so on.
