General Description
1-Bromo-4-ethylbenzene undergoes oxidation to give 4′-bromoacetophenone (74.3% yield).
Synthesis
In a 5000 mL four-necked flask equipped with stirring, thermometer and reflux condenser tube, 4000 mL of diethylene glycol and 900 g of potassium hydroxide were added sequentially with stirring, and the temperature was slowly increased to about 60??C. After the potassium hydroxide was dissolved, 754.7 g of hydrated fibre and 800 g of p-bromoacetophenone were added sequentially, and the temperature was slowly increased to reflux reaction for 2 h. The reaction was converted to reflux for distillation by dripping heated water into the reaction products and slowly evaporating until no oil beads appeared in the fraction, and the reaction was stopped. The reaction was stopped when no oil droplets appeared in the distillate. The distillate was transferred to a separatory funnel, separated from the aqueous phase, the aqueous phase was extracted with ethylene dichloride, and the organic phase was combined, washed with dilute hydrochloric acid until weakly acidic, and then washed with saturated brine for three times, dry. Filter, steam dichloroethane at atmospheric pressure, steam product under reduced pressure.
