General procedure for the synthesis of 4-bromo-2-fluorobenzaldehyde from 4-bromo-3-fluorobenzyl alcohol: To a solution of 4-bromo-3-fluorobenzyl alcohol (7.9 g, 38.5 mmol) in dichloromethane (160.0 mL) was added sodium acetate (940 mg, 11.5 mmol) and pyridinium chlorochromate (10.8 g, 50.0 mmol) sequentially. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature and protected from light for 2 hours. After completion of the reaction, the mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate (1.0 L) and filtered through a diatomaceous earth pad. The filtrate was washed sequentially with aqueous sodium bicarbonate (600 mL) and water (600 mL) and subsequently dried with anhydrous sodium sulfate. After evaporation of the solvent under reduced pressure, the resulting crude product was further purified by column chromatography to afford 4-bromo-2-fluorobenzaldehyde as a white solid (5.0 g, 63% yield).
